Micro carved rings of the 18th century are some of the rarest in existence. The highly challenging and specilized nature of carving at such a microscopic scale contribute to the fragility and rarity of such survivors.
Set under crystal, the scene depicts a sailing ship with a castled seacoast in the distance. Flat cut emeralds surround the bezel. The ring with a rayed posterior and fleur-de-lys shoulders. Classic Rococco details date this particular example to 1760/1770.
